Gangotri is a sacred Hindu pilgrimage town in Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi district, acting as a crucial Char Dham site and the birthplace of the Ganges River. Situated at 3,415m, it is home to the 18th-century Gangotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Ganga, and is the starting point for the 19km trek to Gaumukh, the river’s origin.
